Former Co-op—Central Nebraska

See how a former Nebraska co-op achieved 100% benzene reduction, transforming 7.544 mg/L contamination to non-detect levels using strategic BAM treatment around a single well.

ORIN successfully treated Benzene contaminated groundwater utilizing ORIN’s patented Bioavailable Absorbent Media (BAM). ORIN utilized DPT in order to effectively cover the injection area around MW-1 . A vacuum truck was utilized during chemical injection to remove highly contaminated groundwater and to provide hydraulic control. Eleven injection points received a combined total of 1,100 gallons of treatment chemistry.

The Challenge

The site presented specific treatment needs:

  • High benzene concentration: 7.544 mg/L
  • Site-specific target: 6.970 mg/L
  • Single well focus area (MW-1)
  • Need for precise treatment
  • Regulatory compliance requirements
  • Path to site closure

The Solution: Targeted BAM Implementation

The team executed a precise treatment strategy:

  1. Treatment Design:
    • 11 strategic injection points
    • 1,100 gallons total treatment volume
    • DPT application methodology
    • BAM technology deployment
    • Focused area treatment
  2. Implementation Controls:
    • Vacuum truck deployment
    • Hydraulic control maintenance
    • Contaminated water removal
    • Treatment optimization
    • Distribution verification

Impressive Results

The treatment exceeded all objectives:

  • Initial concentration: 7.544 mg/L
  • Target level: 6.970 mg/L
  • Final result: Non-detect
  • Achievement: 100% reduction
  • Exceeded compliance goals

Path to Closure

Current status and next steps:

  • Quarterly monitoring program
  • Continued verification
  • Progress toward closure
  • Regulatory compliance tracking
  • Long-term effectiveness confirmation

Key Success Factors

Several elements contributed to perfect results:

  1. Precise injection placement
  2. Strategic BAM application
  3. Effective hydraulic control
  4. Focused treatment area
  5. Comprehensive monitoring

Innovation Highlights

The project demonstrated several advantages:

  • Complete contaminant elimination
  • Exceeded treatment targets
  • Efficient application
